    hey everyone

looking at a 2005 skidoo summit 800 for my dad and i am wonder what are the pros and cons of this sled?

i tried to do a lil research and havent really found anything.. i was told bye a friend that they had issues with the 05 800's with loosing there top end at 1100-1600 miles.. is this true? anythign else too look out for with them?

    any help would be great.

    thanks

The only thing I've heard about the top ends were that when combo with nitrous they become a problem. The 07s had crank issues. Just get one out without the stock skiis. Buddy I ride with has one with 2500 mi on it and no issues.

the only prob would be the ring locator pin on the piston wears out and lets the ring spin. i got 3800 miles on mine before that happend.they also had had flaking rings on some of them too. and the rubber boot that holds the reeds will delaminate on all of them. other wise they are a great sled

I bought the 05 Summit 800 new and love it!! I haven't had any top end issue, but only have about 2100 miles on mine. My reed boots did start delaminating, which is a know issue on about any Doo. I replaced mine with Boyesen's, as they use aluminum boots instead of rubber. Issue resolved.

They did have flaking ring issues in 04 and part of 05. What I have read is they are not sure when the cut-off was, so it may or may not effect you with an 05 sled. I have not changed mine yet. Mine still look good through the y-pipe hole, but the big thing is compression. They say you will feel a power loss and see a compression drop when they flake and loose their seal. I have not seen any change in compression yet, and check about 3 times per year. As soon as I see a drop, I will change pistons and rings.

I think there are a couple of changes that need to be done "out of the box", but they already may be done on yours.

          1. I hated those offset skis. Like the concept, but the skis just did not perform for me. I swapped mine for Simmons, and love them.

          2. I added a clutch kit (D.J's) and it woke that sled up big time!! It also got rid of the the 5k stutter that some of these 800's have.

          3. Lastly, I got rid of the huge "suitcase" and put a can in there, which saves a handful of pounds.....but is not as neccasary as the first two items above, in my opinion.

Overall, I have heard the 05 and 06 Summits are the sleds to have. I would not change mine out for the newer XP, as I like mine better.

          Hope this helps,

            thanks for all the replies.

we went and looked at the sled. was a super clean sled.. only 1150 miles on it. had an hps can on it.

after talking to the guy we couldnt get him to come down on his price as he is asking 5550 for it.. and well we dont feel its worth that much.

also found an 07 skidoo summit 800 151 (red and white color)

            it comes with this:
Goldfinger Left Throttle, factory clutch upgrade, reverse, 806 miles and still on the original belt.

new belt, extra spark plugs, Ski-Doo accessory bag, sled cover w/ hood dust cover, accessory gas can, and new shovel

anyone know anythign about this sled??? whats it worth?

            thanks for the help

The 07's that didnt have crank and case issues were rockets.
Find out what has been done to it.
Take the Vin # to a dealer and they can tell what has been done , as far as warranty and such.

I have heard the same thing....many problems with the 07's. What I read was most of the problems were with the XRS, but check on that to be sure. That is why most people (that want the REV over the XP) look for an 05 or 06.

Good luck shopping...there are many sleds to choose from!!
